My bad. Bare-bones nonetheless. Wizard of Oz is insulted by a snapper case, that I know for sure.

Titanic

According to Italian home theater magazine AF Digitale, 20th Century Fox may be in the process of finally releasing the long-awaited Titanic: Special Edition in early 2005. Details are still a bit sketchy, but the magazine reports that the film will receive a mega four-disc set featuring a new DTS ES 6.1 audio track. Of the extras, expect commentaries, deleted footage and mountains of other bonus material. Keep in mind that nothing official has been announced yet. But the fact that it is being reported by a major European publication is good news. My only hesitation is the "early 2005" timeframe. A DVD project of this magnitude would take a good amount of time and planning. For an early 2005 release date, this thing must be in production already, or even nearing completion. So if it has been in production for some time, why haven't we heard rumblings about it until now? Stay tuned for more information if, and when, it is revealed. Thanks to Andrea Alfonso for the scoop.
DTS is the only thing they had to say to get me to buy it.

Yeah, but what ones, besides those, huh?

This is great news. I have always had a soft spot for this movie...ever since seeing it on opening night back in 1997. While the current edition is sorely lacking, I am glad that I have had it my collection these several years. I bought it on release day (didn't even have a DVD player yet) and I have enjoyed the film many times since. I will be gladly replacing it with the new version, but I have definitely gotten my money's worth from the old DVD.

This is one of the first 10 or so DVDs I ever bought, and I don't think I've ever watched anything but the climax.

Still, they had me at DTS.

Not into extras, but an anamorphic transfer and DTS make this a must buy for me.

Finally!!! I sold my original copy a long time ago in anticipation of the special edition being released. Almost caved in and purchased the old edition again.

That movie is always on sale it seems every week like $7.50,$4.99,etc.
So the news must be true since it looks like the stores are trying to unload their stock. I saw this done to GOODFELLAS old dvd.

I've been waiting for this announcement. Now I can unload my older version.

Does the fact that Paramount is releasing the title here in the U.S. bother anyone else? It wouldn't be a big deal if the contents were the same 100% as the Fox release, but I have my doubts.

From the Rumor Mill at www.thedigitalbits.com

Finally today, let's talk about the BIG Fox title you probably want to know about. No, not Episode III (although you can likely expect that to hit DVD in time for the holidays). We're talking about James Cameron's Titanic. Our industry sources have confirmed that a SERIOUS special edition is currently being worked on by Fox. You can expect it to follow a similar pattern to New Line's Lord of the Rings films on DVD - a 2-disc version and a more elaborate 4-disc edition. Both will feature a sparkling new anamorphic widescreen transfer of the film. Among the many extras you can expect are lots of deleted scenes and tons of "behind-the-scenes" material. Watch for it to be announced later this year for release in the 4th Quarter. As expected, it'll be released by Paramount here in the States, and Fox internationally.

Wait...they're giving us a 2 disc version and then a 4 disc version of a movie that's been out already for years? Yeah ok. I think i can hold off until the 4 disc version.

Also, no telling if we'll get DTS here considering it'll be released by Paramount here but Fox overseas.

I'll buy the 4-Disc only if the "Drawing Scene" is longer.

Amen.

Hopefully the four disc set will come with a bonus, ala LOtR. Perhaps a tray that allows you to make replica "Leo as he sinks to the bottom of the ocean" ice cubes..
